Breathing RateMeasuring breathing (respiration) rate normally requires a chest strap to measure the movement of the chest on inhalation and expiration. Waveforms are provided by some devices (such as the Zephyr BioHarness) but others will only report the breathing rate itself (e.g. updated every few seconds). Breathing rate is a useful biometric physiological parameter when monitoring how hard someone is working. It is also useful to see how the movement of the chest varies according to activity levels and events. For example, in high-g driving formulas, drivers may brace themselves in corners by holding their breath; it is a poor habit and can easily be "coached out" with live breathing data.
