The Pilot is delivered with a configuration that can be used as-is. You may never need to change it.

Out of the box, all you need is to connect it up to a data logger, with a CAN Bus running at 1MHz (in standard addressing mode), which is set to log messages sent by the Pilot every second on hexadecimal ID "0x403" (decimal "1027").

The default Pilot configuration will connect to any ANT or BLE heart rate monitor that is in range so within moments you will see non-zero values appearing in the Pilot's CAN message. The first byte of the message is the heart rate.

At this point, you are ready to go! Later, the data logger or viewing software will need to be configured to understand which bytes in the mesage represent what and you should configure the Pilot device to connect to only your heart rate monitor but essentially, as long as the CAN data logger is there, you will get data from the Pilot.

If this default setup is not possible on your system then the Pilot can be reconfigured through the Embedded Setup software to change just about setting, including CAN bus speed and addressing mode as well as the speed and type of message the Pilot sends.
